Thorsten Hohmann King of Straight Pool at Lucasi Hybrid Classic
Thorsten "Hitman" Hohmann went undefeated through a field of all star players at the inaugural The Lucasi Hybrid Invitational Classic 14.1 Championship. Hohmann defeated his last four opponents, Stevie Moore 150-85; USA's 14.1 hotshot John Schmidt 150-51, and then dark horse Dave Grossman 150-26. That set up a final between high run champ Mika Immomen of Finland and the Hohmann.
Mika Immonen was trail blazing his own path with a 99 and out run against Charlie Williams 150-42, then manhandled Johnny Archer 150-63, destroyed Dennis Orcullo 150-49.
The finals was everything a 14.1 fan could want with Immonen coming out with a 100 plus run to lead 112 to 3. Then Hohmann turned up the heat with an amazing 169 ball run to turn the tides 172 to 112. Then both players showed some nerves under the intense pressure with a few misses as it was anyone's ballgame with only a few racks left.
Mika, already with three runs over 100 balls in the event, needed 44 points and took a swing at a dead ball in the stack. He missed! This left Hohmann needing only 8 balls for the win and a final 200-156 score.
Another notable match was 16 year old wizard Dominic Jentsch running a perfect 150 and out against Philippines Santos Sambajon. Many fans and players should expect great things from this powerhouse junior. Dominic will try to prove himself in the pro 10-ball event as well as the World Junior 10-Ball Championships starting tomorrow.
All the events are sponsored by Lucasi Hybrid, Cue& Case, Ozone Billiards, and Bankshot Billiards. Official equipment is Simonis Cloth, Aramith Balls, Master Chalk, and Delta-13 Rack. Clothing wear will be available at event by Gambler Clothing and cue repair by Image Que's John Spidel.
The Ozone Billiards US Amateur 9-Ball Open drew in over 120 amateur players vying for the 9-Ball titles during the Lucasi Classic Pro events. The 9-Ball division continues through Sunday along with over 30 juniors in the World Junior 10-Ball Championships and a full 48 man field in the Lucasi Hybrid Pro 10-Ball event . Over 200 players are participating in all the events.
